Philosophy of Tackling Issues
Throughout our lives our worlds are constantly changing, sometimes for the good, and sometimes for the bad. Daily issues arise from ordinary scenarios, and can become daunting to tackle alone. I believe families, and the knowledge of how to best handle a situation, can be everything in making it through a difficult time, whether that family is biological or not.
In working with teens I feel issues, whether it be, "I don't know how to change a diaper," or ,"My parents will not speak to me right now," need to be tackled head on. In learning how to confront conflict, or find resources to help you, in a healthy manner one can be able to overcome.
Finding resources to help you can be an important way to learn how to confront conflict in a healthy manner. I look for people's behaviors, what do they typically do. Then I question if that behavior is healthy. Finally, how can we change the unhealthy behaviors. There is a quote by Gandhi, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." I have learned that changing the parent and making them into a better person will make them able to change their world, others’ world, and, most importantly, their baby’s world.
Even if the issues are something as, "My sixteen year old is pregnant," or "I don't know how to tell my parents I am pregnant." These road blocks can be handled, and with mentoring, counseling, or simply communicating in a healthy way people can overcome these challenges. In working with families, I believe in discussing the issue at hand, and coming up with a healthy, mature plan, which can alleviate many worries, or stress, and aid a family, or individual in beginning to conquer these issues.
